Oral health is a part of your life more than you think...

The 14th Annual Oral Cancer Awareness Month is happening now; the month of April. Many associations and foundations alike have joined together in their crusade to get the word or oral cancer out there. These organizations include the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology (AAOMP), American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF). Their campaign includes reminding everyone that regular oral cancer examinations from your dental professional are the best methods to detect oral cancer in its early stages. Regular dental visits can improve the chances that any potentially bad changes in your oral health will be caught early, at a time when cancer can be treated more easily. Oral health is in our everyday simple life, like when we eat, talk, smile, or sing. Oral Cancer Awareness Month helps us remember how much oral health directly affects us. It affects our life constantly which makes it very important on a daily basis. Smoking and tobacco use are major oral cancer risk factors, however the fastest growing segment of oral cancer patients is young, healthy, nonsmoking individuals due to the connection to the HPV virus. It seems as if we are helpless to stop this virus from spreading for now; so our only hope to save lives is with professional involvement and public awareness. Educate yourself and help others. That is always a good motto to live by anyway.

Spring cleaning isn't just for your home.

Spring is finally here and what comes to mind when you think of spring? Naturally our first thoughts go to the nice weather. Well here in Arizona, at least the Phoenix Metro Area and of course here in Apache Junction, we are always lucky to have some of the best weather in the nation during spring time.  Our thoughts about spring usually start with the outdoors; with the blooming plants, sunbathing, the wonderful bright sun, lots of colors, April showers, and May flowers. There is still one other thing that comes to mind during this time of the year, the always fun spring cleaning. People seem happier in general when it’s spring time which certainly means more smiling. Which means you want to make sure your teeth are clean and white right? Just like you would deep clean your home for some spring cleaning, your teeth need that same attention. It is strongly recommended to have your teeth cleaned professionally twice a year. Teeth cleaning, an important part of general dentistry, is a process used to remove tartar that every day brushing and flossing can miss. Most dental treatments help to prevent and treat the two most common oral diseases which are tooth decay and gum disease. Don’t neglect your mouth; think about how important it is to you. Your smile is a powerful thing and is a big part of your first impression so it is in your best interest to keep your mouth healthy. Make general dentistry part of your routine and life to ensure a healthy mouth for a longer time.

A smile can say many things.

There are many great reasons why a smile can be an extremely powerful thing. One of those main reasons is how everyone smiles in the same language. Since the smile is one of the first features people notice about one another, that makes the teeth one of the first things others really see. Many things can be said with a smile without actually saying a word which is something that is truly amazing. All of the above is why white teeth are so important in our society. Tooth whitening remains one of the most economical ways to improve your smile. It lightens teeth and helps remove discoloration and stains. A few reasons teeth can become stained or discolored is from the use of tobacco, drinking dark colored liquids like coffee and soda, and of course just not taking care of your teeth.  Also, aging can make teeth less bright & the enamel thinner. Many teeth whitening products and systems are available that you can use yourself, at home. Of course dentists offer in-office teeth bleaching which is the quickest and most popular cosmetic dental procedure. These days there are so many options for any budget and any person, it is just a matter of finding what works for you.
