How clean is your breath?

Have you ever been told you have bad breathe? It can be extremely embarrassing especially because it makes you wonder how long it has been like that. Of course no one wants to hear they have bad breath but it is much better to be aware than to walk around with no clue. Foul breath is usually caused by a buildup of bacteria in your mouth that causes inflammation and gives off noxious odors or gases that smell unpleasant. Studies have shown that about 80% of bad breath comes from an oral source. For example, cavities, gum disease, cracked fillings, not so clean dentures, and even tonsils that have trapped food particles can cause bad breath. However, bad breathe can also can be caused by some internal medical conditions, such as liver disease, respiratory tract infections, diabetes, and chronic bronchitis. Be aware that things like acid reflux, postnasal drip, and any causes of dry mouth can aid in the bad breath department. Consult your doctor to ensure the proper treatment of these problems which will help your breath as well.  If you have been told or think you have bad breath and can rule out anything I have named off here than you simply need to maintain good oral hygiene and regular dentist visits. Also be mindful that some diets and foods can make it seem like you do not have clean breath. Kissing in particular has been studied in a controlled experiment and it was found that increasing the frequency of kissing in marital and cohabiting relationships results in a reduction of perceived stress, an increase in relationship satisfaction, a lowering of cholesterol levels, and the extra saliva helps reduce tooth decay by keeping tartar away resulting in cleaner breath. Everyone has bad breath sometimes, such as when we first wake up in the mornings so to stay embarrassment free on other occasions make sure to keep up with your brushing, flossing, and dental visits to ensure that clean breath.

Cosmetic dentistry can build your confidence.

Cosmetic dentistry is dentistry aimed at producing a positive change to your teeth and to your smile. Dentists can execute a variation of procedures from slight changes to major repairs to improve your smile, therefore improving your self-esteem. There are many choices and procedures to restore teeth that are discolored, chipped, misshapen, or missing. These improvements are not always just cosmetic. Many of these treatments can improve and correct oral problems, such as your bite as well. Cosmetic dentistry has progressed from simply replacing and restoring damaged teeth to covering a wide scope of esthetic procedures. Today's cosmetic dentistry includes tooth whitening, bonding, tooth-colored restorations and fillings, porcelain veneers, orthodontics, dental implants, and more. You may be surprised by how dentistry has evolved and what can be done by an experienced cosmetic dentist these days. When selecting a cosmetic dentistry office, you can never go wrong by looking at the reviews from actual customers that have been to the dental office you are interested in. Actually this is a good idea to do for any new service you are thinking of using. Word of mouth is the best way a business can be honestly advertised. A friendly staff is very important; if everyone in the office is happy and in good spirits it puts us at ease as a customer. We feel more comfortable being there in the first place, since most of us do not enjoy dental appointments. Please call if you would like to make an appointment or just ask a question. We pride ourselves to offer the best cosmetic dentistry in Apache Junction. We are here for you and can’t wait to help boost your self-esteem.

We can help you have sweets and dental health!

There is just a certain enthusiasm in the atmosphere that only a big holiday can produce. When a major holiday is coming up it seems like you can actually feel the anticipation in the air. All holidays are different; they are unique in their own way and they have diverse traditions. However, most share quite a few similarities. What comes to mind when you hear the word holidays? I’m sure food, fun, family, memories, and of course sweets pop up in your head. Who doesn’t love to indulge a little? During the holidays it’s always nice to enjoy sugary treats but just keep it in moderation. Even though sugar is delightful it is not a good idea to consume too much of it. It is not only unhealthy for your body but it affects your dental health directly. Everywhere you go there are sweets being dangled in front of your face right now since Easter is the closest holiday. Companies love to appeal to children in hopes they will ask their parents and their parents will give in and buy the candy.  Guess what? It works!  At least try to plan some fun outdoor physical activities for your kids to distract from the sweets on Easter and make sure they brush their teeth after enjoying all that sugar. Sweets and dental health are on opposite sides of the field but exceptions can and should be made for holidays since it is all part of the fun.

Oral health is a part of your life more than you think...

The 14th Annual Oral Cancer Awareness Month is happening now; the month of April. Many associations and foundations alike have joined together in their crusade to get the word or oral cancer out there. These organizations include the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology (AAOMP), American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF). Their campaign includes reminding everyone that regular oral cancer examinations from your dental professional are the best methods to detect oral cancer in its early stages. Regular dental visits can improve the chances that any potentially bad changes in your oral health will be caught early, at a time when cancer can be treated more easily. Oral health is in our everyday simple life, like when we eat, talk, smile, or sing. Oral Cancer Awareness Month helps us remember how much oral health directly affects us. It affects our life constantly which makes it very important on a daily basis. Smoking and tobacco use are major oral cancer risk factors, however the fastest growing segment of oral cancer patients is young, healthy, nonsmoking individuals due to the connection to the HPV virus. It seems as if we are helpless to stop this virus from spreading for now; so our only hope to save lives is with professional involvement and public awareness. Educate yourself and help others. That is always a good motto to live by anyway.

Root Canal Awareness Week is almost over!

Root Canal Awareness Week is going on right now so I thought I’d give you all some information about the root canal. When you hear or see the words root canal I am sure your thoughts are not pleasant but if it is left untreated, it can cause continuous pain or lead to an abscess. Millions of teeth are treated and saved each year with root canal treatments. An endodontist is what kind of dentist actually performs this treatment. Endodontics is the dental specialty that deals with the study and treatment of the dental pulp. Dental pulp is the part in the middle of a tooth, made up of living connective tissue and cells called odontoblasts. Endodontists perform a variation of procedures including root canal therapy, surgery, treatment of cracked teeth, and treating dental trauma. Root canal therapy is one of the most common procedures done by an endodontist. To put it simply, endodontics deal with restoring the health of the inside of the tooth. Endodontic treatment is necessary when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected, which can have a variety of causes. These include deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, faulty crowns, or a crack or chip in the tooth. Root Canal Awareness Week is a national effort to raise awareness of endodontists, so that patients and general dentists know to contact a specialist when a root canal is needed. Please don’t be afraid of a root canal and definitely don’t wait to get the procedure done if it is necessary. Millions of others just like you require a root canal procedure so do not worry. We provide a fun, relaxed, and friendly environment, making that root canal procedure that much easier for you so give us a call for any of your dental needs.
